Previous commemorative sneaker releases from Nike have celebrated Chinese New Year with traditional red and gold outfits, but an upcoming Air Max 270 React sees the Swoosh welcome the Year of the Rat with pastel, sunset-like hues. At a glance, this iteration of the ultra-cushioned model seems like a Spring-ready pair for women, but closer inspection reveals subtle nods to the changing of the Chinese calendar. This same Chinese-inspired token appears on the left shoe’s heel – opposite the wheel of Swooshes found on the right shoe – in a silver embroidery. Continuing the celebration, white mudguards and overlays are decorated with a barely discernible pattern of leaves, stars, and other customary symbols. Orange and purple gradients round out this Chinese New Year release, taking over the toe box, as well as midfoot and heel panels, respectively while morphing into a pink/blue palette to take over visible Air unit at the heel.
